Arizona 87, UCLA 52

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Salim Stoudamire led five players in double figures with 19 points Saturday as the Arizona Wildcats embarrassed UCLA, 87-52, to hand the Bruins their all-time worst defeat at Pauley Pavilion.

UCLA's previous most one-sided home defeat was a 104-82 setback to California on Jan. 24, 1993.

It also marked the first time the Bruins had lost seven games at Pauley Pavilion in one season. The Bruins lost in front of legendary coach John Wooden to fall to 2-7 at home.

Channing Frye added 12 points and Jason Gardner and Los Angeles native Hassan Adams 11 apiece for the Wildcats (13-1, 6-0 Pac-10 Conference), who completed their first two-game road sweep of UCLA and Southern California since the 1992-93 campaign. Arizona beat USC on Thursday night, 81-72.

The Bruins (4-9, 2-3) scored the first points of the game on a layup by Jason Kapono but Stoudamire countered with a three-pointer to give the Wildcats the lead for good. Arizona opened a 24-14 advantage on a hook shot by Frye with just over four minutes remaining in the half and led by double digits thereafter.

Arizona likely will become the new No. 1 team in the nation when the polls are unveiled on Monday. Top-ranked Duke lost at Maryland earlier Saturday.

T.J. Cummings scored 12 points to pace the Bruins, who shot just 32 percent.
