Chi. Cubs 3, Arizona 2

CHICAGO, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Joe Girardi singled in the winning run with none out in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday as the Chicago Cubs snapped the Arizona Diamondbacks franchise-record nine-game road winning streak, 3-2.

Alex Gonzalez started the ninth with a single off Matt Mantei (2-2) and stole second. He raced home with the winning run when Girardi lined a 1-1 pitch into center field.

Chicago also stopped Arizona's eight-game winning streak overall -- one shy of a franchise mark.

The Diamondbacks took a 2-1 lead on Damian Miller's inside-the-park homer in the top of the sixth. Second baseman Mark Bellhorn and right fielder Sammy Sosa collided on a bloop down the line, allowing the slow-footed catcher to circle the bases.

Bellhorn and Sosa left after the sixth inning due to headaches and dizziness.

After Joe Borowski got Quinton McCracken to ground into a bases-loaded double play to end the top of the eighth, the Cubs tied the contest in the bottom half.

With one out, Mike Fetters walked Bill Mueller, who advanced to second on an wild pitch and third on a passed ball. Mike Myers replaced Fetters and gave up a sacrifice fly to Fred McGriff.

Antonio Alfonsecca (2-3), the fourth Cubs' pitcher, tossed a scoreless ninth to get the win.

The Diamondbacks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first without the benefit of a hit.

Matt Clement, who carried a no-hitter into the fifth, walked McCracken, hit Junior Spivey and walked Steve Finley to load the bases. He got Miller to bounce to shortstop, but Gonzalez bobbled the potential double-play grounder, allowing McCracken to score.

The Cubs tied the contest in the bottom half as Bellhorn led off with a double and scored two outs later on McGriff's single.
