Philadelphia 7, Los Angeles 5

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Giovanni Carrara hit Todd Pratt and Jimmy Rollins with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth inning Monday as the Philadelphia Phillies rallied for a 7-5 triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers and a split of their four-game series.

The Dodgers erased a 4-2 deficit with three runs in the seventh -- two on a home run by Adrian Beltre and the go-ahead tally on a solo shot by Mark Grudzielanek.

Los Angeles starter Hideo Nomo held Philadelphia in check in the bottom of the seventh but newly acquired setup man Paul Shuey (0-1) struggled in the eighth.

Shuey walked Placido Polanco with one out and Bobby Abreu followed with a base hit. Shuey rebounded to strike out pinch hitter Pat Burrell but gave up a game-tying single to Travis Lee.

Jason Michaels pinch-hit for reliever Mike Timlin (3-3) and Shuey walked him to load the bases. Dodgers manager Jim Tracy turned to Carrara and he promptly hit Pratt and Rollins in a span of five pitches to put Philadelphia in front, 7-5.

Los Angeles threatened in the ninth but Phillies closer Jose Mesa got Dave Roberts on a lazy flyout to center with the bases loaded in the ninth to notch his 32nd save in 39 opportunities.

The Dodgers finished their road trip 6-7 and had their lead over San Francisco in the wild card chase shaved to one-half game.
