Moya increased his winning streak to 12 matches, having captured the Bastad and Umag claycourt titles earlier this month.

The 25-year-old Moya is gunning for his fourth title of 2002, also taking the Acapulco crown in March. But he admitted feeling the effects of his run.

"I'm feeling tired," Moya said. "I injured my left elbow as I hit it with my racquet following through on a swing. It isn't serious. It just really hurt at the time."

Moya next faces Stefano Galvani of Italy, who moved into his first career ATP quarterfinal with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Marc Rosset of Switzerland.

"I will try and play to the same level I have been," Galvani said. "It's important to stay focused or Moya will send me on my way home."

Christophe Rochus of Belgium and Franco Squillari of Argentina also reached the quarterfinals Wednesday. Rochus upset No. 3 Fabrice Santoro of France, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, and Squillari beat qualifier Fernando Verdasco of Spain, 6-4, 7-5.

Just three seeds moved into the final eight on the women's side.

Rittner knotted her all-time series with Farina Elia at three wins apiece. In their previous encounter, Farina Elia triumphed in a second-round meeting at Wimbledon in June.

In the quarterfinals, Rittner plays No. 6 Henrieta Nagyova of Slovakia, who cruised past Anca Barna of Germany, 6-4, 6-2.

The second and fourth seeds also fell Wednesday. Qualifier Dinara Safina of Russia trounced No. 2 Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, 6-1, 6-1, and Virginia Ruano Pascual of Spain knocked off No. 4 Martina Sucha of Slovakia, 6-4, 6-3.

Safina's next opponent is No. 8 Magui Serna. The Spaniard rallied past lucky loser Jana Kandarr of Germany, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Ruano Pascual meets Russian Vera Zvonareva, who rolled over Italian qualifier Flavia Pennetta, 6-3, 6-1.

The other quarterfinal pits No. 3 Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario of Spain and Tathiana Garbin of Italy. Sanchez-Vicario dispatched Russian qualifier Maria Goloviznina, 7-5, 6-2, and Garbin took care of Polish wild card Joanna Sakowicz, 6-4, 6-2.
