San Antonio 94, Philadelphia 75

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Tim Duncan scored 23 points and Malik Rose had 14 and seven rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs used a huge third quarter Tuesday night to post a 94-75 exhibition victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Duncan made 10-of-15 shots from the floor, 3-of-3 free throws and grabbed five rebounds. The Spurs had a 41-40 halftime lead before he opened the third quarter with a three-point play that sparked a 12-2 run.

Duncan capped it with a basket at 9:08, giving San Antonio a 53-42 lead. The Spurs outscored Philadelphia, 31-19, in the third period.

Charles Smith and Stephen Jackson each scored 11 points for San Antonio. Amal McCaskill and rookie Tony Parker each added nine and Antonio Daniels had seven points and eight assists.

David Robinson, Terry Porter and Danny Ferry did not play for the Spurs.

Philadelphia saw its injury problems grow after Eric Snow fractured his left thumb early in the third quarter. Matt Harpring required stitches after suffering a laceration on his hand late in the period.

Harpring scored 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting before leaving and Speedy Claxton, who missed his rookie season with a knee injury, had 12 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Dikembe Mutumbo did not play due to lower back soreness and George Lynch was sidelined with a left foot injury. Allen Iverson and Aaron McKie continue to rehab injuries for the defending Eastern Conference champions.
