Beijing restaurant opens roast duck museum

BEIJING, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A Beijing restaurant has opened a museum dedicated to roast -- or peking -- duck as a celebration of the 150-year-old eatery's signature dish.

The seven story Quanjude restaurant, which officials said serves up to 2,000 roast ducks per day, has dedicated one of its floors to a roast duck museum featuring pictures of world leaders including Chinese leader Mao Zedong, U.S. President Richard Nixon and late North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il sitting down for roast duck dinners.

The museum's entrance is adorned with a giant gold statue of a duck.

The restaurant estimates it has served nearly 200 million roast ducks since it opened its doors 150 years ago. The restaurant is one of 20 tapped by Beijing officials to provide food to hotels housing dignitaries for the current Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting.
