SHARON OSBOURNE GETS TALK SHOW

Sharon Osbourne, who just told Barbara Walters that she has had enough of doing MTV's hit reality show "The Osbournes," apparently has enough gas in the tank for her own TV talk show. Osbourne has struck a deal with Telepictures Productions to develop a show, possibly in time for a premiere in syndication during the fall of 2003. Telepictures is also is working on a talk show featuring Ellen DeGeneres. It currently has "The Caroline Rhea Show" on the air and, until recently, produced "The Rosie O'Donnell Show." Sharon Osbourne told Walters that allowing cameras to film her family's life has had a negative effect on the family -- particularly her husband, rocker Ozzy Osbourne. "It's had a tremendous effect on Ozzy," she said. "Ozzy's been hitting the bottle again and the cameras are here all the time." Sharon Osbourne -- who was diagnosed earlier this year with colon cancer -- said lack of privacy was also a problem for her. "You know when you're sick, you want to be on your own?" she said. "And I can't throw up on my own and Ozzy can't get drunk on his own." Of course, a talk show -- produced in a studio -- would not involve such incursions into the family's daily life. MTV has announced that the second season of "The Osbournes" will premiere on Nov. 26. The upcoming season is likely to focus on Sharon Osbourne's health. She is expected to be receiving chemotherapy until March -- meaning she will be in treatment throughout the entire 10 episodes of the new season, which is scheduled to shoot through February. In its first season, "The Osbournes" won the Emmy for outstanding reality non-fiction program

ALL ABOARD FOR THE LOVE RIDE

Jay Leno, Peter Fonda, Larry Hagman and Pat Boone head the all-star celebrity lineup scheduled to take part Sunday in Love Ride 19 -- the annual motorcycle rally-fundraiser on behalf of Reading By 9, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and other charities. Leno will serve as grand marshal. Fonda is this year's honorary grand marshal. The rally will get going pretty early -- with a kickoff concert by Jefferson Starship at 7:00 a.m. Organizers anticipate that more than 20,000 cyclists will bike from Glendale, Calif., to Castaic Lake for a barbecue and a concert featuring Sheryl Crow and Mick Fleetwood. Other celebrity cyclists include Robert Patrick ("The X-Files") and Lorenzo Lamas ("Falcon Crest"), Sally Kirkland ("Edtv," "Anna"), George Gray ("Weakest Link") and Jefferson Starship members Paul Kantner and Marty Balin.

MAYBE EMINEM WILL PERFORM?

The National Football League has hired Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records, and Joel Gallen, producer of the MTV Music Awards and the Emmy-winning "America: A Tribute to Heroes," to produce the halftime show for Super Bowl XXXVII. In a press release announcing that Iovine and Gallen will produce the pageant, the NFL said talent for the show would be named later. Given Iovine's connections -- Interscope features Eminem as well as Nirvana, Beck and U2 -- it's only natural to wonder whether Eminem might not wind up on the program during the Super Bowl on Jan. 26, 2003 in San Diego. Super Bowl XXXVI featured U2, largely owing to Iovine's involvement in that production. Halftime show producers have become accustomed to bringing in the biggest, hottest acts available -- since the Super Bowl is seen by an estimated 800 million people around the world.

RESULTS OF QUESTION NO. 450 (AIR)

Last week we asked about your favorite "flavors" of air fresheners or aromatherapy sprays. Here's a random sampling from the e-mail inbox. More than 40 percent noted that anything citrus seemed to be the best and lightest. Some of the new berry smells were mentioned. About 20 percent also mentioned that they had begun to use candles to freshen the air, particularly in bathrooms. As far as odors that would be neat if they could be packaged: baking bread, coffee or anything relating to a kitchen at breakfast were high on the list. NEXT: Coupons galore. GBA
