Osbourne publicist Lisa Vega says the family matriarch was treated for early stage colon cancer at a Los Angeles hospital last week. Sharon is said to be in good spirits and doing well in her return to running the wacky household chronicled in a reality style series on MTV last season.

A second "The Osbournes" series -- negotiated by Sharon for $20 million -- is slated to begin this fall.

Husband Ozzy, meanwhile, kicked off OzzFest in Scranton, Pa., Wednesday. OzzFest's first two installments were postponed when Sharon's illness was diagnosed last week.

NEW SEINFELD BIO DEPICTS 'DARK, STEELY' JERRY

A new book about Jerry Seinfeld says the comedian in real life is not the same laid-back guy depicted in his hit television show. Biographer Jerry Oppenheimer's "Seinfeld: The Making of an American Icon," due to hit the bookstores next month, says the comedian can be "very dark and steely."

Oppenheimer, who penned bios about Martha Stewart, Barbara Walters and the Clintons, says asked his pals not to talk to him. Oppenheimer says he was able to find many of Seinfeld's old girlfriends, some of whom were angered when the comic worked them into his monologues.

He also said friends were surprised to learn Seinfeld started dating a 17-year-old girl when he was 39. Oppenheimer also devotes three chapters to Seinfeld's love affair with a woman who was married when they met.

JANET RENO HOSTS 'DANCE PARTY' FUNDRAISER

Saturday Night Live's Will Farrell wore a blue dress as host of "Janet Reno's Dance Party" and now the former U.S. attorney general hopes the same bit that got laughs from a TV audience will raise cash.

Reno is using the same theme for a fundraiser to collect contributions for her campaign to be governor of Florida. Reno is staging her own $25-a-head "dance party" fundraiser at a Miami Beach nightclub on July 19.

MADONNA CAMEOS IN NEW BOND FLICK

Pop icon Madonna filmed a brief cameo in the new James Bond film, "Die Another Day," in London this week, her publicist says.

The Material Girl plays the part of a fencing instructor during a duel between 007 star Pierce Brosnan and Gustav Graves, the film's bad guy, played by Toby Stephens.

Madonna also contributed a song to the film and is due in southern California next month to shoot a video for the "Die Another Day" title track.
