LOS ANGELES, May 9 (UPI) -- Julianna Margulies' celebrated legal drama The Good Wife ended its seven-season run on CBS Sunday night. The series finale saw the actress' Alicia Florrick standing by her scoundrel husband Peter -- played by Chris Noth -- one last time as he resigned as the governor of Illinois after taking a plea deal in which he received no jail time.

"My career will be over," Peter told Alicia when she advised him to sign the agreement.
"I think it's over anyway, isn't it?" his spouse reasoned.
The episode featured as well the return of Josh Charles' murdered character Will who was seen both in flashbacks and in the present day as helping guide Alicia through some tough decisions.
"I'll love you forever," Alicia promised Will, to which he responded, "I'm OK with that."
Alicia also called her current love interest Jason -- played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan -- and left a message saying she is ready to be with him now that her marriage is over and her daughter is off to college, but he doesn't return the phone call.
In the final moments of the show, lawyer Diane, played by Christine Baranski, slapped Alicia across the face and stormed away because Alicia had Diane's firearms-expert husband Kurt, played by Gary Cole, tainted by a colleague when he was a damaging witness at Peter's trial.
The final shot of the show follows Alicia as she regains her composure and walks alone down a hallway.
