AUSTIN, Texas, March 17 (UPI) -- Farrah Abraham was hesitant to return for season five of Teen Mom.

The 23-year-old reality star was not expected to take part in the MTV show's upcoming fifth season, and can be seen surprising co-stars Maci Bookout, Catelynn Lowell and Amber Portwood in a preview for the show.

The four women came to fame on 16 and Pregnant, and appeared on four seasons of Teen Mom. Abraham alienated herself from her peers with her 2013 sex tape and new gig as a stripper, and confessed to Us Weekly it was uncomfortable to rejoin the series.

"It was a little bit awkward for me, and I tried to work with them the best that I could," she related. "I was just a little bit reluctant because of the progress I made while I was not on the show. I think it's good to be back for [daughter] Sophia's sake and showing how our lives are to help others."

Bookout admitted she was shocked by Abraham's return, saying, "I'm not going to lie and say I was happy about it. But, I mean, it's something that I guess people will just have to watch on the show. And it has nothing to personally do with Farrah at all. I have no hard feelings towards her whatsoever."

Teen Mom season five will see both Bookout and boyfriend Taylor McKinney and Lowell and fiancé Tyler Baltierra reveal they are expecting, and Portwood field an engagement proposal from a new beau. The season will premiere March 23 at 10 p.m. ET.
