No 'X Factor' for Janet Jackson

HOLLYWOOD, March 3 (UPI) -- Janet Jackson said it won't be possible for her to judge reality show "The X-Factor," though her rep said there was no official request for her to do so.

Jackson told TheInsider.com her commitments to an upcoming summer tour prevent her from taking part in the singing competition.

She said she is "very flattered that 'X Factor' let me know that I was being considered for next season, but it just wouldn't be possible."

The singer was in negotiations to replace Paula Abdul, who was fired from the show along with Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones in January, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Representatives for Jackson, though, said Thursday "there have been absolutely no meetings between Janet and anyone with regard to 'X Factor,'" the New York Daily News reported Friday.

Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and the late Whitney Houston had all been rumored to be possible judges for the show since the January firings, the News said.

"X Factor" judge Simon Cowell has told "Extra" he's interested in working with Katy Perry on the show.

"I worked with Katy once. I think she would be fun because she is hard -- in a good way -- and she's feisty," he said. "She would be great."
