NEW YORK, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Actor Alec Baldwin will host NBC's "Saturday Night Live" next month for a record 16th time, the network said.

Baldwin, who currently stars in NBC's "30 Rock," will lead the cast on stage for the Sept. 24 opener of the 27th season of "SNL."

Baldwin is currently tied with Steve Martin for the most appearances by a host. John Goodman has 12 appearances and Tom Hanks and Buck Henry have 10 notches apiece.

The Los Angeles Times said Saturday the producers planned to air footage of Baldwin shooting pre-show promos for his first "SNL" appearance with the pop band B-52s in April 1990.
