NEW YORK, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran, Pink, Sia, Zac Brown Band, Eric Church and Jamie Foxx are to perform at Shining a Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America.
The concert will be recorded at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Nov. 18. It will air as a two-hour special Nov. 20 across all A+E Networks channels, including A&E, HISTORY, Lifetime, H2, LMN and FYI, as well as on iHeartMedia broadcast radio stations nationwide and the iHeartRadio digital platform.
The show is dedicated to members of South Carolina's Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church where nine black churchgoers were shot and killed by a white racist during a prayer service last June. The concert is also meant to recognize people working for reconciliation and change around the United States.
"As a global media company, A+E Networks has the privilege of being invited into the homes of millions of Americans every day and believe that it is our responsibility to use this incredible platform to inform as well as entertain. By shining a light on the uncomfortable truth that racial inequity and bias still impact our society, we are looking to inspire people to go beyond short-lived, symbolic gestures," Nancy Dubuc, president and chief executive officer of A+E Networks, said in a statement Thursday.
