NY choir to sing at Oscars

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- The fifth-grade chorus at New York's Public School 22 has been booked to perform on the 83rd Academy Awards, telecast producers said Friday.

The announcement was made by Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer, who are producing the Feb. 27 prize presentation at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center.

Cohen and Oscar co-host Anne Hathaway were on hand Thursday night at the children's annual Winter program to surprise the chorus members and their families with the news they had been chosen to perform on Oscar night in Los Angeles.

Staten Island's P.S. 22 has gained recognition during the last few years through video-sharing on YouTube.

Over the years, the chorus has performed on TV's "Good Morning America" and "VH1 Divas," as well as at Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall and at the National Tree Lighting ceremony at the White House, the Oscar producers said.
