Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Downton Abbey extends an invitation to fans in a first teaser trailer for its movie sequel. The promo features the show's iconic manor and opening music, as well as other familiar visuals, like the house's pull bell system.
"Next year, you are cordially invited to the motion picture event," text in the teaser reads. "Only in theaters."
The trailer ends by confirming Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville), Lady Grantham (Elizabeth McGovern), Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and other returning characters will appear in the new film.
Downtown Abbey had a six-season run on ITV from 2010 to 2015. Focus Features confirmed in July the show will have a big-screen sequel featuring much of the principal cast.
"Welcome back to Downton ! We're thrilled to announce that #DowntonAbbey is coming to the big screen. Film production begins this summer," the studio tweeted.
Focus Features later announced the Downtown Abbey movie will open in theaters in September 2019.
"Since the series ended, fans of Downton have long been waiting for the Crawley family's next chapter," studio chairman Peter Jukawski said in a statement.
"We're thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing the world of Downton to the big screen next September," he added.
