DENVER, June 20 (UPI) -- Stan Lee says Tom Holland makes a great Spider-Man.

The 93-year-old former Marvel president praised the 20-year-old actor while appearing at Denver Comic Con over the weekend. Lee co-created Spider-Man with artist Steve Ditko in the 1960s.

"Oh, he's wonderful. I was with him the other day. He is great," Lee said of Holland. "I can't believe it. It's as if we created a living being to be Spider-Man, and it turned out to be Tom."

Lee, who also created characters including the Hulk, Iron Man and the X-Men, told fans Spider-Man is his favorite. The Marvel legend will executive produce Spider-Man: Homecoming, Holland's first solo movie as Spider-Man.

Holland debuted as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War in May, with Spider-Man: Homecoming scheduled to open July 7, 2017. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield played Spider-Man in previous films.

"There's going to be both things from Tobey and Andrew's character that I'm going to steal," Holland told Variety in December. "But there's one very specific path that [director] Jon [Watts] and I agree on, and we'd like to take the character down and explore his background."

Homecoming will co-star Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey, Jr., Michael Keaton and Zendaya. Holland is also slated for James Gray's adaptation of The Lost City of Z with Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller.
