Netflix announces global stand-up special 'Comedians of the World'

Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Netflix has announced plans to highlight stand-up acts from around the world in a new special coming New Year's Day titled Comedians of the World.

Comedians of the World will consist of 47 comedians from 13 regions in eight languages who are diverse in style, gender and ethnicity.

Chris D'Elia, Nick Swardson, Nicole Byer and Beal Brennan will be featured from the United States alongside DeAnne Smith from Canada; Franco Escamilla from Mexico; Ellie Taylor from the U.K.; Jason Brokerss from France; Riaad Moosa from South Africa; Cal Wilson from Australia/NewZealand; Katherine Levac from Quebec; Rawsan Hallak from the Middle East; Mhel Marrer from Brazil; Rayen Panday from the Netherlands; Kaya Yanar from Germany and Amit Tandon from India, among many others.

"Something big is coming. Something so spectacular it will change the world... of comedy," reads a synopsis.

Netflix said in teaser trailer released Tuesday that at least one female comedian was featured from each region and that the special was put together after filming the most 30-minute specials across the largest number of regions.
