LOS ANGELES, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Former Parenthood star Dax Shepard celebrated 12 years of sobriety on Thursday.

The 41-year-old actor marked the anniversary by paying tribute to wife Kristen Bell and their two children, 3-year-old son Lincoln and 20-month-old daughter Delta, on Twitter.

"12 years ago today I came out of my last toxic, life threatening stupor. I now have a wife & babies & some self-esteem #gratitude #promises," he wrote.

Shepard had revealed in April that he was molested as a child and suggested the abuse was linked to his addiction issues. Bell later discussed her husband's past addiction with CBS Sunday Morning.

"He knows the value of things. He was an addict for many, many years and he pulled himself out of it," she said. "He knows how many times he's messed up and how many times he's been really close to losing everything."

"He's a wonderful father," the actress gushed. "We got married in a tiny room in the Beverly Hills courthouse, and it was still one of the best days of my life."

Shepard is known for playing Crosby Braverman on Parenthood, which came to a close after six seasons in 2015. He will direct, produce and star in the new comedy CHiPs, which co-stars Bell and Michael Pena.
