LOS ANGELES, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Bella Hadid says she loves The Weeknd for who he is and not his famous persona.

The 19-year-old model discussed her relationship with the 26-year-old singer in the September issue of Glamour magazine. The Weeknd was born Abel Tesfaye in Toronto, Canada, in 1990.

"I'm dating Abel," she said of the two-time Grammy winner. "I don't see him as The Weeknd. I'm proud of The Weeknd and the music he makes, but I really love Abel."

Hadid and Tesfaye started dating in spring 2015 and made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2016 Grammy Awards in February. The singer won Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best R&B Performance at the ceremony.

"It was a big night for him," Hadid recalled. "He has worked so hard, and he did so well that night. As a girlfriend I wanted to be there to support him. Seeing him so happy when he won a Grammy made me so happy."

Hadid previously told Elle that she enjoys watching Tesfaye work on what he loves. She got an up-close glimpse into her beau's world last year when they collaborated on his music video for "Into the Night."

"I love seeing him happy and passionate about his art. Being able to see how he works, and put both of our workplaces together, turned out to be really beautiful," she said in the magazine's June issue.

Hadid, the younger sister of model Gigi Hadid, is known for her work with Balmain and Chanel. Tesfaye last released Beauty Behind the Madness in August 2015, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
