NEW YORK, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Blake Shelton announced on The Today Show Monday that he will be hosting the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards in 2016.

"I just want to get slimed!," The Voice coach told Today hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford about wanting to experience the networks signature green slime that gets dumped on attendees. "I want to do this thing with kids, it's fun. My agent called and asked me if there was anything I wanted to do, and I had been thinking, 'I want to host those Kids' Choice Awards.'"

"I've been on countless stages throughout my life, but none have promised the madness, excitement, and endless slime as Nick's Kids' Choice Awards, which is undoubtedly the ultimate party for kids," Shelton said in a statement. "There is only one team here, and it's Team Kids' Choice!"

Shelton had been teasing the big reveal on social media Sunday leading up to his announcement tweeting, "No chance yall are gonna guess this one. It's just WAY too insane..."

The 2016 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards are set to air on March 12.
