HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- The first trailer for Spike Lee's new film, "Chiraq," Amazon Studios' first original film, is out.

The film debuts in theaters on Dec. 4 and later on Amazon Prime

The trailer shows a sharply dressed Samuel Jackson welcoming viewers to the story of a woman named Lysistrata, who leads a sex strike in Chicago to rally against gun violence in the black community. The film is a modern take on the Greek comedy of the same name.

The movie stars Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Angela Bassett, Dave Chappelle, Jennifer Hudson and more. The lead role is played by Mad Men actress Teyonah Parris.

The film has been criticized for its comparison of Chicago to Iraq through the film's title. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said he did not approve of the title but believes the film's subject "has been ignored for too long and needs to be discussed."

The film's trailer opens with the statement that homicide counts in Chicago have trumped the deaths of special forces in Iraq.
