LOS ANGELES, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Melissa Benoist stars in a new trailer for CBS series Supergirl.

The preview sees 26-year-old actress take flight as the title character, aka Kara Zor-El and Kara Danvers, as she embraces her powers and begins to fight crime. The video also touches upon Kara's lineage as Superman's cousin.

Mehcad Brooks appears as Kara's co-worker and love interest Jimmy Olsen, with Chyler Leigh as Kara's adoptive sister Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Kara's co-worker and friend Winn Schott. Calista Flockhart plays Kara's boss Cat Grant, with Jenna Dewan-Tatum as Lucy Lane.

"I've been training since the pilot and before," Benoist recently told FOX411. "It's challenging. It's tiring. It's a good thing, though. [Supergirl's] got to be really, really tough and strong to show girls and anyone that you can overcome the things that you're afraid of."

Supergirl will premiere Oct. 26 on CBS. Arrow and The Flash executive producer Greg Berlanti co-wrote the pilot with Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg, and will co-executive produce with Adler and Sarah Schechter.
