LONDON, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Musician Elton John is to marry his longtime partner David Furnish Dec. 21 since England has legalized same-sex marriage.

Furnish hinted toward the impending nuptials when he spoke to the Las Vegas Review-Journal after England passed the law but didn't end up marrying in May.

"We don't feel the need to take an extra step legally," Furnish said. "But since we're committed for life, we feel it's really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example."

The two have been together since 1993 and had a civil ceremony in 2005. They have two sons Zachary and Elijah.

The two are said to be getting married on Dec. 21 on their estate in Windsor.
