George Clooney unveils wedding date, location at charity event

TUSCANY , Italy, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- George Clooney opened up about his fiancee British barrister Amal Alamuddin and his upcoming nuptials while being honored during Sunday's Celebrity Fight Night in Tuscany, Italy.

"I met my lovely bride to be here in Italy, whom I will be marrying, in a couple of weeks, in Venice, of all places," the 53-year-old actor told the crowd as he gave his acceptance speech.

The event -- which was being held in support of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation and The Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center -- also marked the couple's first red carpet appearance together. Attendees reportedly dined on pasta al pesto and sipped on champagne as they bid for prizes like a dinner with Billy Crystal and Robert De Niro, a nine-day vacation aboard the Salvatore Ferragamo family yacht and an Ermanno Scervino white crocodile handbag autographed by Clooney.

According to People magazine, Clooney's main focus during the evening was Alamuddin as he kept putting his arm around her shoulder and caressing her hair.

The Monuments Men star and Alamuddin got their marriage license last month in London. The duo's engagement was confirmed in April by Alamuddin's firm just days after she was seen wearing a sparkling diamond on her ring finger. Asked about the upcoming nuptials, the actor told Variety he was "marrying up."
