A Most Wanted Man is based on the 2008 John le Carré novel of the same name. The story follows Bachmann as he tracks half-Chechen, half-Russian immigrant Issa Karpov (Grigoriy Dobrygin) in Germany. He believes Karpov will lead him to Dr. Faisal Abdullah (Homayoun Ershadi), a respected academic whom Bachmann suspects has terrorist connections.

Rachel McAdams also stars in the film as lawyer Annabel Richter. A Most Wanted Man debuts in theaters on July 25.
