Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, the co-stars of Danny Boyle's production of "Frankenstein," split the prize for Best Actor. They alternately played the roles of Dr. Frankenstein and the Creature in the stage drama.

"What a journey this was. I'm so happy we're sharing this. It would have made no sense otherwise," the BBC quoted Cumberbatch as saying.

"It was literally a monster of a production," Miller said.

Sheridan Smith won the Best Actress Award for her work in "Flare Path" and Mike Leigh was named Best Director for "Grief."

Kyle Soller went home with the Outstanding Newcomer Award for his performances in "The Glass Menagerie," "Government Inspector" and "The Faith Machine."

Soller beat out his wife, actress Phoebe Fox, for the honor, the BBC said.

"I've got to split this in half when I go home," he quipped.
