Sutherland: Jail good for introspection

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- U.S. TV and movie actor Kiefer Sutherland says his recent 48-day stint in jail gave him time to reflect on his life situation.

The star of the hit TV series "24" said he spent most of his four dozen days in a California jail on drunken driving charges last year reconsidering the choices that led up to his incarceration, The Times of London said Saturday.

"I did a lot of folding clothes and thinking about what I was doing in there," the actor told The Times.

"I keep feeling I should say something more about it. But I made a mistake and I was lucky because people have been really supportive."

His arrest in West Los Angeles last September came while the "Mirrors" star was already on probation for a December 2004 drunken driving incident.

Sutherland told The Times that with his Glendale City Jail experience behind him, he is hopeful he will be able to avoid any future run-ins with the legal system.

"I was incredibly cross with myself for it. It was careless and I wasn't thinking," the actor said. "Hopefully that's behind me and I'm moving on."
