Huckabee to be guest on 'Tonight Show'

BURBANK , Calif., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Republican U.S. presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is slated to be a guest on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" when the show tapes Wednesday.

The show has been shut down since the Writers Guild of America went on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers Nov. 5.

Leno and several other late-night talk-show hosts announced earlier this month that they would go back to work in January without their writers to protect the jobs of their shows' non-writing employees.

Although the shows are scheduled to resume production this week, it has been unclear who the guests will be, since many Hollywood celebrities are concerned with breaking solidarity with the still-striking WGA, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Huckabee is set to be a guest on the first new "Tonight Show" in two months, the trade paper said.

"The Late Show With David Letterman" has announced Donald Trump and Shooter Jennings will appear on the show Wednesday.

However, Letterman's production company reached a separate deal with the WGA Friday that will return its writers to work, as well as those who work on "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson.
