CALCUTTA, India, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- The little black dress Audrey Hepburn wore around New York in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" bought educational and medical supplies around India.
The Givenchy-designed dress was sold to an anonymous bidder at auction to raise money for Calcutta's City of Joy Aid, which helps India's poor through a network of clinics, schools, rehabilitation centers and hospital boats, the BBC said Tuesday.
The dress sold in December for more than $913,000, which will help fund 15 new education centers in India, said French author Dominique Lapierre, who set up City of Joy Aid. The first new educational center is expected to open later in February in Lakshmikantapur in India's state of West Bengal.
Lapierre was given the dress by designer Hubert de Givenchy. It was one of three made for Hepburn in her role as Manhattan socialite Holly Golightly in the 1961 film.
