Vieira calls 'The View' a joke

NEW YORK, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Former co-host of "The View," Meredith Vieira, told Time magazine the all-female morning talk show on ABC in New York has become a "joke."

Vieira moderated the show for nine years, but left in May. She said she was "not tired" of the program, but after such a long time, "you become so blase," the New York Post reported.

Vieira said she stopped watching the show because she was looking to the future. She is moving to NBC's "Today" show in September.

Former "View" co-host Star Jones announced on the air that she was quitting.

Vieira said she did watch the show the day after Star's surprise resignation, the Post said.

"I'm proud of the work we did there," she said. "But it's not a good time in the history of that show."

"The View," which received the 2003 Daytime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Talk Show," features four women of different ages and backgrounds discussing current topics.

The team includes news correspondent Barbara Walters, comedian Joy Behar and former "Survivor: The Australian Outback" contestant Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Comedian Rosie O'Donnell joins "The View" as moderator in September.
