Tony Snow to leave work to fight cancer

NEW YORK, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Fox News political contributor Tony Snow says he will be off U.S. airwaves for an indefinite period as he fights colon cancer.

Snow, 49, told listeners of his daily radio show Monday that he had learned Friday of a "small, cancerous lesion inside my colon."

The former Detroit News and USA Today columnist said he hopes the disease and its treatment will not keep him off the air for long, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

"I'm going to start seeking treatment, so I don't know if I'm going to be here tomorrow," Snow said. "I'm going to work as much as I can because I've got to tell you, I love doing this, I love being here, and this also gives me something to do rather than letting my imagination run wild with fears about what might be happening in my body.

"I'm not going to kid you, although the prognosis, I'm told, is very good," he said. "One of the good things about going in for an annual colonoscopy is you don't give these bad guys too much time to grow, so I probably saved my life by going in."
