SYDNEY, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Foxtel, Australia's major pay TV platform, has announced its proposals for its $460 million conversion to a digital service.

The long-awaited plans reveal that Foxtel Digital, as it will be known, will offer 130 channels to consumers including new video on-demand movies and interactive sports and news programming. Pricing and timing of service details will not be announced until next month.

The company aims to launch the new service before the end of June. It anticipates an entry price not more than the current cost of a basic satellite package, $37.

Said Foxtel CEO Kim Williams, "This is the most significant change (in Australian TV) since the launch of Foxtel in 1995 and, before that, color TV. It is TV at the service of Australians, and we believe hundreds of thousands of Australians will have it and that it will contribute to enormous growth to our business."
