Lockheed Martin wins Saudi helicopter contract

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin has won a $22 million contract for upgrading Royal Saudi Arabia helicopter software.

The contract calls for Lockheed Martin to provide Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) Special Repair Activities for the Royal Saudi Land Forces' fleet of Apache attack helicopters, the company said Wednesday.

"Saudi Arabia is the second international customer to establish an M-TADS/PNVS in-country Special Repair Activity. Providing test and repair capabilities for international customers greatly increases supply availability and maximizes Apache mission effectiveness," Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control M-TADS/PNVS international and fleet support director Mike Taylor said.

First deployed nine years ago, Lockheed Martin's M-TADS/PNVS system provides Apache attack helicopter pilots with long-range, precision engagement and pilot capabilities for mission success and flight safety, not only 24/7 but in adverse weather missions.

The M-TADS/PNVS system's forward-looking infrared sensors provide enhanced image resolution that enables Apache aircrews both to identify targets and provide support data to support of ground troops outside detection ranges.

Lockheed Martin has delivered more than 1,200 M-TADS/PNVS systems both to the U.S. Army and international customers.
