Coast Guard orders radar from ITT Exelis

CLIFTON, N.J., March 7 (UPI) -- Multi-mode radar is being supplied to the U.S. Coast Guard by ITT Exelis for use on long-range surveillance aircraft.

The AN/APY-11 units to be fitted on the nose and belly of HC-130J Super Hercules aircraft will provide 360-degree coverage for detection and tracking of small and large ships up to a distance of 200 nautical miles.

"Our multi-mode radar system is the most effective maritime surveillance radar in its class," said Peter Martin, director of Programs, Defense Systems, for the Exelis Electronic Attack and Release Systems business. "As the Coast Guard's mission continues to grow, our radar will adapt to evolving operational requirements."

The AN/APY-11 multi-mode radar, first supplied to the Coast Guard in 2005, is produced by ITT Exelis in partnership with ELTA Systems Ltd.

The contract is worth $6.5 million.
