GREENBELT, Md., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- A demonstration vehicle that tests fuel efficiency technologies for military vehicles has been delivered to the U.S. Army by World Technical Services Inc.
The demonstrator was specifically built by the Maryland company for the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center.
WTSI said FED Bravo, as the demonstrator is called, is one of two vehicle designs for the TARDEC project and features innovative engineering and design. It is powered by a parallel, road-coupled hybrid-electric drivetrain with a rechargeable battery.
"WTSI is honored to partner with TARDEC in the delivery of a fully operational Fuel Efficient Ground Vehicle Demonstrator to test technologies that can be transferred to other vehicle platforms that support our soldiers," said WTSI President William Sample.
TARDEC is seeking a 70 percent miles-per-gallon improvement over that currently achieved by the M1114 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles.
Subject matter expertise and logistical support will be provided by WTSI during testing.
WTSI is a subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company. Its services to the U.S. government include operations support, logistics and maintenance support and engineering.
