ArmorSource to develop new helmet

HEBRON, Ohio, March 9 (UPI) -- ArmorSource has announced plans to invest in a new ballistic helmet system for eventual deployment with the U.S. armed forces.

Ohio-based ArmorSource said it plans to devote new funding for research to develop a lightweight, fully ballistic helmet design as well as a next-generation helmet in the Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops/Modular Integrated Communications Helmet style that is widely deployed by the military and law enforcement.

Company officials said the new fully ballistic design developed out of the research investment is expected to be used exclusively by U.S. armed forces.

"The new lightweight helmet is designed to exceed the ballistic fragmentation resistance as defined and determined by most armies, but with a significant weight reduction of approximately 20 percent," Yoav Kapah, a ballistic-protection engineer conducting the ArmorSource research program, said in a statement.
