OWEGO, N.Y., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. company Lockheed Martin on Wednesday unveiled a new variant of its Infantry Carrier Category B model.
Lockheed Martin has since 2007 unveiled several operational prototype variants from its Joint Light Tactical Vehicle team, including the Infantry Carrier JLTV Category B model, the Utility Vehicle Light Category C model and the General Purpose Mobility Category A model.
On Wednesday at the Association of the U.S. Army Winter Symposium in Florida, the team released its fourth JLTV prototype, a second variant of its Infantry Carrier Category B.
The JLTV vehicle program is part of the U.S. Defense Department's plan to replace the fleet of Humvees with a more heavily armored tactical vehicle.
"We have designed, developed and extensively tested mature JLTV vehicles," Lou DeSantis, Lockheed Martin vice president of JLTV systems, said in a statement.
"Introducing the fourth operational prototype demonstrates our team's commitment to provide the war-fighter with the lowest-risk, most technically innovative and affordable vehicle possible."
