LADSON, S.C., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- South Carolina-based Force Protection Inc. announced it has been contracted by the U.S. Marine Corps for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles support.
Force Protection's Cougar and Buffalo design MRAP vehicles, currently being used for U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, are an effort to protect soldiers against landmines, hostile fire and improvised explosive devices among other hazards in the military theater.
Under the $91.8 million contract Force Dynamics, with joint venture partner General Dynamics Land Systems, will supply operational support services for the Marines at their MRAP training program, MRAP Vehicles University, at the Red River Army Depot, Texas.
“Critical to the optimal performance of our vehicles is the support they receive in the field,” Force Protection President Michael Moody said in a statement. “We have worked continually to ensure that our logistics, maintenance, and training support network grows in parallel with our record-breaking vehicle production and delivery. This contract underscores the importance of these sustainment efforts.”
Training is scheduled for completion by November 2008.
