ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- South Korea's new AH-64E Apache helicopters are to be outfitted with Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor systems.
The M-TADS/PNVS systems by Lockheed Martin provide pilots with long-range, precision day/night engagement capabilities in all weather conditions.
The contract given to Lockheed is for 36 M-TADS/PNVS systems and spares and is worth $223 million. Production of the electronic gear -- through the year 2018 -- will be conducted at company facilities in Florida.
"M-TADS/PNVS will provide the Republic of Korea Army with unmatched capabilities and performance," said Mike Taylor, director of Apache international and support programs at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "Lockheed Martin looks forward to this partnership with the Republic of Korea Army to produce and field our modernized targeting and pilotage system for South Korea's formidable new AH-64E Apache attack helicopter fleet."
The Apache helicopters and M-TADS/PNVS systems are being procured through a U.S. Foreign Military Sales deal managed by the U.S. Army Product Manager for the Apache International Sales Program, Apache Attack Helicopters Project Office.
