Sweden receives Patria armored vehicle

HALLI, Finland, March 5 (UPI) -- Finland's Patria reports it has delivered the first of 113 AMV armored wheeled vehicles ordered by the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration.

The 8x8 armored modular vehicles, with a speed of more than 60 miles per hour, features an independent hydropneumatic suspension and allows the use of different turrets, weapons, sensors and communications systems. Its main weapons are gun and mortar system. The vehicles come in a number of variants.

Patria began developing the AMV in the late 1990s and Finland's military placed initial orders for the system in 2003.

Sweden ordered the vehicles in 2010 through a $325 million contract.

"The production of Patria AMVs has proceeded according to plans and now the first vehicles are ready for delivery," President of Patria Land Systems and Patria Land Services Seppo Seppala said.

"Patria AMV represents state-of-the-art technology and it combines our extensive experience and know-how, which are highly appreciated by the users of the vehicles.

"These new armored wheeled vehicles represent a continuation for the Patria AMV product family, which has received excellent feedback for its performance in international operations."
