Countries renew satellite imagery deal

HERNDON, Va., July 16 (UPI) -- Two unidentified entities in the Middle East and Asia have renewed contracts with GeoEye Inc. for high-resolution satellite imagery products.

The value of the contracts, which expand the clients' use of GeoEye imagery, wasn't disclosed but the company said each was more than $1 million.

"Both the Mideast regional affiliate and the Asian government customer have been trusted and valued partners for many years," said Paolo Colombi, GeoEye vice president of International Sales. "We appreciate the extension of our partnerships and the expansion of our global footprint that these agreements represent.

"We look forward to supporting our partners' mission critical requirements by delivering superior-quality location intelligence regarding these highly sensitive and dynamic regions of the world."

GeoEye said its affiliate in the Middle East signed a new deal for access to GeoEye-1 sub half-meter imagery -- the highest resolution commercial imagery available. The affiliate has since 2000 had an ongoing agreement with GeoEye for IKONOS satellite imagery collection and distribution.

The arrangement with the Asian government renews its access to GeoEye-1's imagery products, which it has had since 2009.

GeoEye said both customers will integrate the imagery with their own systems for regional security operations.
