U.S. military orders ViaSat for radio system terminals

CARLSBAD, Calif., April 17 (UPI) -- A full production and fielding order for MIDS JTRS terminals, worth $31.5 million, has been given to ViaSat Inc. by the U.S. military.

The Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System provides a migration path for MIDS-LVT to a certified, reprogrammable, software-defined radio architecture for tactical data links.

It adds three programmable channels, designed to accommodate future advanced airborne networking waveforms to the legacy Link-16 and TACAN capabilities of the MIDS-LVT.

The competitive award is from U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems.

The system, a joint development of ViaSat and Data Link Solutions, has received Software Communications Architecture compliance certification; Electromagnetic Compatibility certification; Joint Interoperability Test Command certification; and National Security Agency security certification.
