New patrol boat for Dutch navy

VLISSINGEN, Netherlands, April 16 (UPI) -- Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding of the Netherlands has delivered another Holland class patrol vessel to the country's Defense Materiel Organization.

The "Friesland" is the third of four patrol boats ordered for the Dutch navy and will now undergo extensive testing and a work up schedule.

Holland class patrol boats are 304 feet long and displace 3,750 tons and are armed with remote-controlled 76mm Oto Melara gun, one rapid-fire 30mm gun and two 12.7mm Hitrole machine guns. They also have hangar and landing space for a NH-90 helicopter. Other features include advanced sensors -- providing capability for detection and tracking of high- and low-altitude air targets, fast boats, periscopes and mines -- and communications technology contained within a Thales Integrated Mast Module.

The mast for the Friesland is expected to be installed in 2014.

Damen Schelde said the fourth Holland class patrol boat will complete sea trials this month and then undergo installation of undisclosed systems beginning this summer.
