VLISSINGEN, Netherlands, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- DSNS of the Netherlands reports that the second SIGMA class frigate built for Morocco is undergoing sea acceptance trials in the North Sea.
During the trials, the 321-foot platform, as well as the sensor weapons and communications suite, were to be tested.
Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding said the ship is to be transferred to Morocco in February. The first frigate was delivered in September and a third is scheduled for sea trials in May.
The frigates have a cruising speed of 18 knots.
DSNS said the Moroccan SIGMA Class frigates are equipped for traditional naval tasks as well as maritime security operations.
The frigates can be equipped with a 76mm canon, MICA vertical launch air defense missiles, Exocet missiles and torpedoes.
The Moroccan frigate was constructed at the company's facility in Vlissingen. DSNS noted the building was completed on schedule.
Other ships under construction by DSNS include four Patrol Ships and a Joint Logistic Support Ship, the largest military vessel built by DSNS so far, for the Netherlands navy.
