Navy selects Cobham unit for antennas

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. subsidiary of Britain's Cobham PLC has been awarded two contracts totaling more than $72 million for specialized military antennas.

The six-year contracts were acquired through Cobham's newly acquired Trivec-Avant business, which has become part of Cobham's Antenna Systems Strategic Business Unit.

The U.S. Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command has issued a $60.7 million contract to add options and contract extensions for the purchase of commercial off the shelf, small ship variant, ultra-high frequency satellite communication antenna systems and mobile user objective systems, with associated spares and subassemblies.

A six-year purchase agreement was also recently signed with Thales Communications Inc. to supply a variety of SATCOM antennas in support of Thales' Integrated Waveform rollout for their AN/PRC-148 Joint Tactical Radio System Enhanced Multiband Inter/Intra Team Radio, Cobham said.

The Thales Communications Inc. agreement could result in revenue of as much as $2 million per year, Cobham said.
