ARLINGTON, Va., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Cobham Plc has been awarded a contract to supply three telerob explosive ordnance disposal robots to Spanish armed forces.

The award finalizes a 10-year purchasing program of advanced bomb disposal technology within the Spanish military.

The Spanish army operates the world's fourth largest fleet of telerob Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Observation robots, featuring 27 systems in total.

"We're pleased to continue support of the Spanish EOD/IEDD team as a critical suppler of the main EOD robot that will provide support to the Spanish armed forces as well as allied nation coalition force bomb disposal capability," said Iain Gibson, senior vice president of Cobham Mission Equipment.

The tEODor was selected by Spain nearly 10 years ago to replace the fleet of older-generation equipment designed to render unexploded ordnance safe.

Cobham Mission Equipment is a systems integration business that has been providing innovative solutions to its customers for more than 75 years. The business is the market leader for air-to-air refueling, providing fifth-generation "nose-to-tail" solutions from the cockpit of the tanker aircraft, to the tail of the receiver platform.

Cobham Plc has headquarters in Britain with partners and customers in more than 100 countries.

The cost of the robots wasn't disclosed.
