KBR wins British contract

HOUSTON, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- KBR has been selected by Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office to provide life support, vehicle maintenance and healthcare services in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The three-year contract, won by KBR's U.K.-based International Government & Defense business unit, also provides the FCO with options for vehicle maintenance in Sudan and Pakistan.

Services will be performed in Baghdad, Basra and Erbil in Iraq, and Kabul and Lashkar Gah in Afghanistan.

Under the award, KBR will deliver a comprehensive suite of services such as medical support, fleet management of armored and soft skin vehicles, interpreters, sustenance, laundry, environmental services and fuel.

"KBR is proud to provide such essential services to the British government in Afghanistan and Iraq, building upon the work we already do in these countries for the U.K. Ministry of Defense," said Andrew Pringle, president, KBR International Government & Defense. "We look forward to continuing to provide FCO with a first class service."

KBR International Government & Defense has more than 3,000 people working in Afghanistan supporting British and NATO troops who are part of the International Security Assistance Force with essential services including managing airfields, running water bottling plants, installing hospital equipment, delivering fuel supplies, catering and constructing rocket-proof shelters and other buildings.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.
