HENGELO, Netherlands, July 25 (UPI) -- The Netherlands Defense Ministry and Thales have signed a contract for the support of Claire thermal cameras used on CV9035 infantry fighting vehicles.
The contract comprises a partnership between the Netherlands Defense Materiel Organization, including its existing maintenance facilities, and Thales Nederland.
Claire midwave (3-5 micrometer) thermal camera is a state-of-the art, third-generation camera with a cooled detector array that focuses on applications in military armored vehicles, such as in the commander sight for the CV9035 and in the remote weapon station for the Boxer.
Thales said its line-of-sight accuracy and range performance enable the commander and gunner to realize high aiming precision and recognition capability.
The Claire camera provides two-fields of view combined with microscan and detector characteristics.
The contract combines complementary capabilities of both parties in an optimal way and will result in an increased efficiency within the Defense Materiel organization, Thales said.
The contract came into effect last Friday and has a lead-time of three years, with possibility for extensions until the end of the expected in-service period of the vehicle (2040).
A total of 184 vehicles are involved.
