Harris gets contract for FMS radio sales

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Harris Corp.'s Falcon II and Falcon III tactical and land mobile radios are to be supplied to U.S. allies as part of the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program.

The company said the contract is has received from the U.S. Army Communications Electronics Command is a five-year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity agreement with a potential value of $475 million.

"This contract provides us a vehicle to continue our partnership with U.S. Army CECOM to support international customers with advanced tactical radios and integrated communications system solutions," said Dana Mehnert, group president, Harris RF Communications. "These radios and systems are used in a wide range of important applications, such as command and control, border security, counter-terrorism and other missions requiring secure networked communications."

The company's Falcon family of software-defined tactical radio systems encompasses manpack, hand-held and vehicular applications. Falcon III is the next generation of radios supporting the U.S. military's Joint Tactical Radio System as well as network-centric operations worldwide.

Earlier this week, the Harris announced receipt of a $24.5 million order for Falcon IIIs from the Army and U.S. Department of Defense.
