Marines order more Navistar MRAPs

WARRENVILLE, Ill., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps has ordered 175 additional Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles from Illinois company Navistar Defense.

The $123 million order for International MaxxPro Dash vehicles, equipped with DMX independent suspension, includes spare parts.

The company said it expects to complete production of the vehicles by next summer.

"We are honored to provide additional MaxxPro Dash vehicles so soon after receiving last month's award for recovery vehicles," said Navistar Defense President Archie Massicotte. "This award is an element in a strategy that allows us to build our business around a revenue base of $1.5 (billion) to $2 billion. Another important element is our commitment to keeping warfighters safe."

The company describes the MaxxPro Dash as a smaller, lighter and more mobile version of the basic version MaxxPro MRAP, with a smaller turning radius and higher torque-to-weight ratio. Designed to navigate through rough terrains, MaxxPro Dash is less prone to rollover problems and thus suitable for deployment in Afghanistan.
